The Clinical Virology Laboratory at the Institut Pasteur de Tunis, serving as the WHO Regional Reference Laboratory (RRL) for Poliomyelitis and Measles/Rubella surveillance, partnered with the World Health Organization's Eastern Mediterranean Office to jointly organize the International Measles/Rubella Serology Training for Somalia.

The training took place from November 27 to December 1, 2023, at the Institut Pasteur de Tunis, Tunisia.

The primary objective of this training was to provide guidance to participants from Somalia on the accreditation criteria established by the World Health Organization (WHO) for National and sub-national Measles/Rubella Laboratories.

Furthermore, the training aimed to impart best practices in confirming suspected cases of measles/rubella, aligning with the standards set by the Global Measles/Rubella Laboratory Network.

The comprehensive training program included both theoretical and hands-on laboratory sessions, allowing Somali participants to conduct serological tests in accordance with practical recommendations provided by the WHO, while adhering to biosafety and biosecurity requirements.
