NGS data analysis workshop: Call for application

affiche ngs h3 bionetThe Institut Pasteur de Tunis (IPT) is organizing the "NGS data analysis workshop" that will be held on 05-14 March 2014.
The present workshop comes as a follow up of the H3ABioNet Train-the-trainer bioinformatics course that was held on the 8th-26th July 2013 at ICIPE, Nairobi. The NGS analysis part (3rd week) of the initial couse will be reconducted for participants from IPT and for participants from the African nodes of the RIIP network (Reseau International des Instituts Pasteur).

The main objective of the workshop is to provide an introduction to Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) and addresses how to analyse and interpret sequences data.
Kindly find in attachment the call for application, the application form and the programme of the workshop.

Applicants should send a duly completed application form in PDF format (saved as: YourFamilyName_FirstName_TTNGSIPT.pdf) by email to the following address: ttngsipt@gmail.com

The deadline for applications is fixed to the February 23th, 2014 (5PM Tunisian time). Selected participants will be informed by e-mail.

Conférence de Abhay Satoskar "Denying access to safe havens :A novel strategy to tackle pathogens”

Abhay SatoskarLe mardi 18 février 2014, à 15h00, dans l’amphithéâtre du bâtiment Recherche, le Pr Abhay R Satoskar, (Professor and Vice Chair for Research, Departments of Pathology and Microbiology Wexner Medical Center,The Ohio State University) proposera une conference intitulée “Denying access to safe havens :A novel strategy to tackle pathogens”.

Résumé de la conférence
Entry into host cells is essential for the replication and survival of obligate intracellular pathogens. Leishmania are obligate intracellular protozoan parasites which infect macrophages and neutrophils. Although macrophages are the principle effector cells involved in eliminating Leishmania, they are also the target cell used by the parasite for its survival and replication within the host. Neutrophils have been suggested to act as a ‘Trojan Horse’ in establishing Leishmania infection in that the parasites survive within these cells, using them to gain entry into macrophages without initiating an antileishmanial host response. Hence, therapeutic targeting of pathways that mediate parasite entry into host cells would be a viable strategy for treating infections caused by Leishmania and possibly other obligate intracellular pathogens which target phagocytes. In my talk, I will discuss the host mechanisms mediating Leishmania invasion into host cells, and present data which demonstrate that therapeutic targeting of these pathways could be a viable strategy for treating infections caused by intracellular pathogens.

Translation and Applications of Advances in Genomics for Public Health and Control of Infectious Diseases of Poverty : symposium and workshop

Cours IPT_JICA 2014The Institut Pasteur de Tunis (IPT) organizes, from january 21st to january 31st, with the support of the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) and the Agence Tunisienne de Coopération Technique (ATCT) a South- South symposium on genomics application for translation in Public Health in relation to infectious diseases that will be followed by a train the trainers workshop entitled “Applications of genomics in public health for infectious diseases of poverty: diagnostics and vector control”. These are developed in the frame of triangular cooperation to foster South- South interactions between Tunisia, Japan and other African countries that over the past three years allowed the organization of 3 courses that benefited 52 participants from African target countries.
