cobra WTThe "Wellcome Trust" foundation announced the launching of the 7 projects selected for the R&D program on ophidian envenoming "Snakebites grants". The Institut Pasteur in Tunis has been selected as the Principal Investigator of a proposal aiming the development of new generation antivenoms to combat the deadly cobra bites, which are widespread in Africa and the Middle East. These environmental pathologies are considered by WHO to be neglected diseases and are the subject of a program targeting at reducing morbidity and mortality by 50%, before 2030.

Over a period of 3 years, the NanoBioMedika team of Pr. Balkiss Bouhaouala-Zahar, Biomolecules, Venins and Theranostic Applications Laboratory, Institut Pasteur de Tunis will work in close collaboration with a consortium of partners from the Institute of Arid Regions (IRA) of Medenine, the Institut Pasteur de Paris (IP), the Institut Pasteur d'Algérie (IPA) and the Institut Pasteur d'Iran (IPI), and researchers recognized for their complementary expertises in venimology, toxinology and immunotherapy.

The COBRA-NGaV project will provide with the proof-of-concept (PoC) of new antivenom candidates to address the dual obstacle of toxins' weak immunogenicity and fast diffusion, with improved functional and structural properties.

The kick-off will be held on January, 11-13, 2022, at IRA Medenine.

PHINDaccess Webinar : Introduction to project design (November 30, 2021)

affiche webinar phindaccess 30 nov-1In the frame of the WP7 «Performance Monitoring And Strategy For Sustainable Networking And Excellence” of the PHINDAccess  project (H2020 programme) and in the collaboration with the grant office of Institut Pasteur de Tunis,  a series of webinars will be organized related to fundraising.

You are invited to the second webinar untitled Introduction to project design which will be programmed November 30th at 10 a.m (Tunis Time).

Speaker:

Olivier SCHAETZLE, PhD, Grants Office, Institut Pasteur (France)

Initially with a background in biology with a focus on environmental microbiology, I eventually obtained a PhD in Chemistry for research work in the field of Microbial Fuel Cells a the University of Rennes 1 in 2010. I was then recruited in a Dutch research Institute, on a European project where beside my research I was acting as assistant of the coordinator. This first experience working in a European project led me to be part of the dedicated team in charge of applying for more European funds and develop my skills in project engineering. Since July 2018 I work at Institut Pasteur’s Grants Office where I scout for new funding opportunities, assist researchers in obtaining fundings and help them manage their granted projects.

Webinar Content:

In order to respond to European calls for projects, one must understand the logic behind what a project is to make it convincing to the reviewers. In this webinar, we will explore the European project management terminology (what is a work package? what is the difference between deliverables and milestones ?). We will also touch on the difference between communication, dissemination and exploitation to help you address the impact section of European proposals.

-Encourage participants to network among themselves, work together to develop robust policies and standards, and cascade their experience to the authors and editors they deal with.

Capacity Building in Research Methods and Ethics on: Good Health Research Practice

DESCRIPTION

The GHRP course provides participants with the necessary knowledge and skills for human research management and helps scientists to understand the importance of ethical and quality principles in the conduct of human health research. This course provides participants with the necessary tools to facilitate the design, conduct, record and report of their research project according to ethical and quality principles.

MODULES

The participants to the GHRP course will build skills in biomedical and health research to develop well-structured competitive proposals with clear and realistic implementation and monitoring plans.

The course, taught in English, will be held over 4 days. It will include the 5 following modules:

  • Good practices in biomedical research;
  • Concept and value of project planning and evaluation;
  • Defining the purpose and scope of the project;
  • Planning the project;
  • Implementing and evaluating a project.

PARTICIPANTS

Target participants who are involved in public health research or/and public health professionals, such as epidemiologists, sociologists, etc..
